We recently concluded a topographic survey for the newly approved Abia State Airport, located in Nsulu, Isiala Ngwa North LGA. The project lasted for three days, covering a sprawling site of approximately 1300 hectares. Despite the challenges presented by thick vegetation and security concerns, the survey was successfully completed, thanks to our advanced technology, dedicated team, and the unwavering support of the local community.

For this project, we deployed the LiDAR RTK drone and SinoGNSS N2 receivers, a combination that ensured we collected precise and efficient data. The LiDAR RTK drone played a pivotal role in capturing high-resolution images while its LiDAR sensor enabled us to penetrate the dense vegetation and accurately map the topography of the project site within a fraction of the time compared to conventional RTK survey. This technology enabled us to capture the true ground elevation beneath the dense vegetation, generating detailed 3D models of the terrain, thereby proving to be invaluable, especially given the challenging landscape of the site.

The sunny weather during the three-day survey was also a significant advantage as we were blessed with a clear sky that provided beautiful conditions for drone flights, ensuring uninterrupted data capture and minimizing delays. This allowed our team to maximize efficiency and complete the project within the scheduled time frame.

One of the notable challenges during this project was the general security concerns in the state. However, with the support of community vigilantes and local youth groups, our safety and that of our equipment were ensured throughout the survey. Their proactive efforts and collaboration were instrumental in creating a secure environment, allowing us to focus on our work without interruptions.

This survey marks a critical step toward the development of the Abia State Airport, which promises to enhance regional connectivity and economic growth. We are proud to be part of the success story of the Abia State Airport construction.
