Challenges they say often become the stepping stones to success, this was precisely the case for our team of surveyors during a recent project at Omu Creek, Sangotedo, Lagos for one of our returning clients. Their ordeals also highlighted some of the challenges that land surveyors face on site. For six weeks, our team battled with rough terrain, traffic, and unexpected obstacles to carry out a bathymetric and route survey for our client. This project I must say, required patience, perseverance, and much creativity from our surveyors.

From sunny to rainy weather, the team faced it all. From the outset, the team encountered difficulties accessing the area due to heavy traffic on the under-construction road leading to the site, sometimes enduring up to three hour delays.

The site itself, a virgin land full of shrubs and bushes and very swampy with thick vegetation, required extensive clearing before the survey could even begin and this led our team to hire cutters to clear the thick vegetation. However, this was only the beginning of their trials. One of the major frustrating things they faced was waiting until the afternoon for the vegetation obstructing the water’s surface to clear before they could commence work and this became a routine for about one week, further delaying progress.

Settling down to work wasn’t also easy, as the team was confronted by local landowners known as the OMONILES demanding settlements thereby disrupting their workflow. Navigating the swampy terrain was another particular difficulty the team faced, as they had to be careful not to step into deep patches or get stuck in the ground. Physical harm was not left out. One cutter sustained an eye injury from a tree branch, while a surveyor injured his hand. A beehive also added to their woes, making an already challenging environment even more dangerous.

Armed with state-of-the-art equipment, the team tackled the demanding terrain with precision and efficiency. They utilized the SinoGNSS N3 and N2 GNSS receivers, which played a crucial role in the success of their survey. The SinoGNSS N-series instruments no doubt have proven in our works to be perfectly suitable and invaluable in overcoming the challenges posed by rugged terrain and unpredictable weather conditions. Equipped with advanced technology, these instruments provided the team with accurate and reliable data, even in the most challenging environments.

Despite the challenges encountered, the team’s dedication and expertise prevailed. They worked tirelessly, ensuring that the project met the client’s expectations. Their commitment to delivering quality results never wavered, irrespective of the adversities they faced.

Just like Michael Jordan said “Talent wins games but teamwork and intelligence win championships” The success of this work I must say was due to the unity and tenacity of our team.
